New Year, Still Me…

I have always made New Year’s Resolutions. Even as a kid, I would make a list of things I wanted to accomplish, or habits I wanted to break. Call them cliche, or pointless…but I don’t see any harm in setting new goals and using the beginning of a new year as a starting point. I love a fresh start, a clean slate. Give me a new year, a new month, heck – even a Monday, and I get excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.

This year, 2016, is no different. There are some big things I want to accomplish in 2016. Some serious and some fun.

It’s a new year, but I’m still me. I like who I am, and I don’t want to necessarily be a NEW ME. I just want to be a better me; a more healthy and fit me; and a more successful me!

• One resolution I kept from last year and will set again for this year is spending one weekend a month at our camp. It gives me something to look forward to and it was a resolution in 2015 that was fun to keep. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t easy! But it was fun. There were some months that I really had to examine my schedule and make it a priority to fit camp into the planning. So again, in 2016, I will spend at least one weekend a month at our camp.

• Something else very important to me, that I started a few days before the new year, is to print photos. When I was a kid and even into my college years, we HAD to print photos to know what we took pictures of! The option didn’t exist to look at photos on a digital camera or phone. There is something so comforting, smile-evoking, and downright fun about turning page after page of a photo album filled with memories. We’ve become a society that takes photos of such trivial things as our dinner, and I want to get back to making some photos more important than others and deeming them worthy to print. Throughout 2016, I will print photos and organize them so I – and my friends and loved ones – can enjoy them for years to come.

• A seemingly annual resolution for me, and a goal I set a few times a year, is to improve my health and fitness. I actually feel a little foolish, sheepish, embarrassed, to come out with yet another goal of losing weight. It’s a constant journey. But I have to take the chance to try again and being public and open about it will not only help me to stay accountable, but it could possibly inspire someone else who thinks they’ve tried and failed too many times but it might be worth trying one more time.

I will be gripping this next chance with both hands and thanking God for offering yet another opportunity to get there. I’ll be starting 2016 with a brand new program produced by Beachbody, the first program where two of Beachboy’s amazing trainers collaborate to get huge results. It’s called The Master’s Hammer & Chisel, and it’s a 60 day program built on the three phases of SSP training: Stabilization, Strength, and Power. I really enjoy strength training. And it’s so important for me, as a woman in her mid-30s, to build muscular strength and endurance. Plus, muscle burns fat. Who doesn’t love that?

Those are the big ones for this year. No need for a list of 10 things; as there are many little things inside of these three big resolutions. It’s time to get serious, focus, and make amazing things happen.

It’s a new year, but I’m still me. I’m just working on becoming a better ME!

Are you setting new goals for 2016? I would LOVE to hear them! Please share!
