Getting a groove back

Feeling a little like Stella lately. You know her, she’s the one who got her groove back. But I’m only feeling a little like Stella….it’s only been a few weeks and I’m not consistent in all the areas I want to be consistent in, so I guess I’m more like Stella’s cousin, we’ll call her Bella.

I’ve been lacing up the running shoes on a more consistent basis this month, and have been more mindful of my eating. I’ve lost a few pounds, but I’m trying to stay off the scale since I’m convinced that it’s the spawn of Satan.

And I’m trying to be more mindful of my nutrition and follow the 21 Day Fix eating plan. It’s easiest if I eat the same thing during the day all week, because I know what portions to pack for my day at work. My weekends need some help and having food already prepared and in the fridge will help.

I made a meal plan for the month this month, and that has come in handy. Life gets in the way here and there, and plans change, but for the most part we have stuck to the plan.

I registered for both the Turkey Trot 5k and the 10k, so that gave me a little kick in the pants to get out there and train. I won’t be running 9 miles without some preparation! I also wanted to make running a habit again before the cold weather set in, so I can make the transition more easily. It’s really tough for me to go from running sporadically in fall to running consistently in the winter.

hardest step for runner

A few easy tricks for me to stay “in the groove” this month:

~ It’s been crucial for me to set up running dates with buddies, because they will keep me from skipping a run.

~ I even wore my running clothes one Saturday morning to worship team practice so I wouldn’t get home afterwards and be tempted to skip my solo run.

~ I’m tagging a few running friends in social media updates after a run, so they can hold me accountable for getting it done.

At some point, I found the enjoyment again in running. The idea of running in our first real snowfall tomorrow morning isn’t appealing to me right now, but I know how awesome I will feel afterwards.

My next goal is to get back to running in the morning at least a few days a week. It’s lighter in the morning than when I get out of work, and I don’t love running with my headlamp. It helps, but it’s not as good as natural light (obviously!).

I’ve done it before, so I know I can do it again.
